Temporary Sweat Control (Botox Injections)
Temporary Sweat Control (Botox Injections)
Botulinum toxin type A, most commonly known by the brand name Botox®, has long been used… in cosmetic medicine to relax muscles and smooth wrinkles. However, its medical application in treating hyperhidrosis is equally significant. Botox® works by blocking the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for activating sweat glands.
Procedure:
During treatment, a dermatologist injects small doses of Botox® into the affected area — commonly the underarms, palms, soles, or forehead. The procedure is quick, usually taking 20–30 minutes, and involves a series of very fine needle injections spaced evenly across the treatment zone.
Results & Duration:
Patients typically begin to notice reduced sweating within 3–5 days, with maximum effect visible after 1–2 weeks. The results last approximately 4–6 months, after which the procedure can be repeated.
Advantages:
-
Non-surgical, minimally invasive
-
Quick recovery; patients can resume normal activities immediately
-
Highly effective in localized areas
Limitations:
-
Temporary — repeat treatments needed for ongoing results
-
Mild injection site discomfort or bruising
Best Suited For:
Individuals with mild to moderate hyperhidrosis who want a reversible and non-invasive treatment option.
