Surgical Options – ETS
Surgical Options – ETS
For the most severe, treatment-resistant cases, ETS surgery offers a permanent solution. This is a minimally invasive procedure performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon inserts a small camera and instruments into the chest cavity to cut, clamp, or remove portions of the sympathetic nerve chain, which controls sweating in specific regions.
Areas Treated:
ETS is most commonly used for palmar hyperhidrosis (excessive hand sweating), but it can also help with severe underarm or facial sweating.
Results:
ETS is typically highly effective for the targeted area, providing permanent results.
Advantages:
-
Permanent elimination of sweating in treated areas
-
High success rates for hands and underarms
Limitations:
-
Surgical risks such as infection, nerve injury, or anesthesia complications
-
Compensatory sweating — increased sweating in other untreated areas of the body
-
Irreversible in most cases
Best Suited For:
Patients with debilitating, treatment-resistant hyperhidrosis willing to accept surgical risks.
